Rotary Bangalore Peenya has been in the forefront of community services since 1983. Its array of service projects that address community needs include disease prevention and treatment programs that include providing Jaipur limbs, crutches, callipers, wheel chairs, tri-cycles and LN-4 below elbow functional prosthetic hands to over 42,000 + needy beneficiaries till date.
Rotarians of Peenya have been working relentlessly for close to 4 decades catering to the needs of the differently abled section of the society in association with Bhagawan Mahaveer Vikalang Sahayatha Samithi (BMVSS), Jaipur.
Annual Mega Jaipur Limb Camp is the flagship project of Rotary Bangalore Peenya and this project has seen a steady flow of beneficiaries for 21 years now. Cutting across the barriers of religion, caste, creed and social status, people from all walks of life from Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Kerala have found solace in this camp, that has made the lives comfortable for approximately 42,000 beneficiaries till date. The living conditions of these beneficiaries have improved immensely once the fitments are made.
The camp is held every year in January for a week, this year from January 3rd to January 9th at Ganesh Bagh, Infantry Road. Dist Governor Rtn Suresh Hari inaugurated the camp that was attended by Padma Bhushan Sri D R Mehtha, Founder Director of BMVSS, PDG Rtn Ganesh from Rotary Club of Merthyr Tydfil, RI Dist 1210 were Guests of Honour and Mr. Deepak Prasad, General Manager, General Insurance Corporation of India was the Chief Guest for the programme.
At the 22nd limb Camp this year, the technicians of BMVSS, differently abled themselves worked for almost 14 hours a day to customize the fitments. Rotarians of Peenya, Volunteers, health care workers joined hands and provided the necessary support to this camp. Artificial Limbs, Crutches, Callipers, LN 4 prosthetic hands were custom made and provided to the beneficiaries free of cost as also boarding. Lodging was also provided for the outstation beneficiaries attending the camp. President of Rotary Bangalore Peenya Rtn Girish S commended them efforts of the previous Presidents of Rotary Peenya and said that the camp has grown wider in reaching the beneficiaries in the remote areas over the years and not even a single person was turned away without a required prosthesis until now.
The chairman of the project Rtn Virchand Nahar worked that extra bit under challenging situations and was able to complete the camp on time with a record number of the beneficiaries this time, thanks to the wider publicity.
The valedictory function was held on the 9th of January in the presence of Branch Manager of State Bank of India, Head Office at St Mark’s Road, Bangalore, who has expressed desire to join hands with us for the next year’s camp.
Rotary Bangalore Peenya comes as a single force and work to make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate and we have “Been the Inspiration” to the world time and again.
